Page Overview

This page is for those who have applied and been accepted onto the Physiopedia Editor Onboarding Programme. If you haven't yet applied but are interested in joining the team, find out more about what we offer here.

Throughout your training, you'll be directed back to this page at various points. Please work through the tasks as instructed during the course rather than completing them all at once, as each task is tied to a specific stage of the training. When you've finished a task, share your output in the Physiopedia Onboarding Slack channel.

Questions? Post any queries you have in Slack, we are always happy to help and answer your queries!

Task 1: Sign up for Slack

We are a worldwide community but only a message away. We use an app called Slack to stay connected as a team, to share updates and have discussions. We will be using a specific team set up in Slack for the purposes of this course. You should have received an invite to Slack by email after successful application and acceptance onto the Physiopedia Editor Onboarding Programme (this is a manual process and may take a few days). Be sure to check your email, accept the invitation and get Slack setup on your computer and Phone. You can download Slack here.

There are multiple different channels set up in Slack, this is where you will post all your queries and tasks. You can browse the channels in the Directories (link at the top of the left side navigation bar). The #general channel is for general chat about the course; the #social channel is for social chat, please feel free to socialise with your colleagues here; there is a #questions channel for your questions; and there are multiple channels each relating to the tasks that you will complete throughout the course.

We are passionate about staying connected, educated and collaborative in all that we do; we are all equal as both learners and educators. We are grateful for the like-minded community we have built, who remain engaged and supportive of each other. Therefore, we ask you as a new member to continue this ethos and in return help is only a message away. With this in mind please don’t be shy to ask questions, the only stupid question is the one not asked. More importantly, please support and reply to the questions of your fellow team members.

Once you graduate from this training programme you will transition to the live team!

"Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." — Andrew Carnegie

Task 2: Introduce Yourself

Once you are all set up on Slack, please introduce yourself. Say “Hi”, tell us where in the world you live, where you work or study, how much experience you have, why you joined Physiopedia and anything else you want to add!

Task 3: Get to know Physiopedia

Explore the Physiopedia website. Start on the Physiopedia homepage and take a look around the different links and pages to get used to finding information and what Physiopedia has to offer. Remember that Physiopedia and Plus are separate sites. Plus is our learning platform, where you can complete courses. Physiopedia is our freely accessible resource where you will be making your edits.

For this task, complete the following:

  • Search for different pages
  • Look at the different categories
  • Look at the different links on the home page so you are familiar with navigating around the website.

Once you've finished exploring share something that interested you with the team. It could be something new that you found, or something that surprised you, or some feedback on what worked well or didn't work well.

Share you feedback

Task 4: Quality Assessment

To consolidate your understanding of Physiopedia's quality standards, please complete the following:

  • Select a Physiopedia page in an area of interest to you and conduct a quality review using the quality review checklist.
  • Make a note of your findings in a document and identify at least three specific improvements that could enhance the page's quality.
  • Please use the Physiopedia Quality Review Checklist to help you review the page (feel free to copy and paste the checklist onto your document).
Task Submission Requirements:

On your document, include the following:

  1. Name of the page reviewed and add the link to the page
  2. Add completed quality checklist with notes on each criterion
  3. Summarise three specific, actionable recommendations for improvement that you would prioritise, with justification based on the Quality Standards and Guidelines
  4. Share your review in the Slack channel for discussion and feedback

This exercise will help you internalise our quality standards and develop your skills in critical content evaluation, which are essential capabilities for contributing meaningfully to Physiopedia's mission of providing trusted, high-quality rehabilitation education worldwide.

Share your quality review

Task 5: Using our quality rating system

By now, you will have completed a quality review in section 3 - task 4, which you will have posted in Slack.

Using the same page, the next task is to reflect on what quality rating you would give that page in its current form (Green, Orange, Red). Share your rating in the comments on your original post on Slack.

Share your quality rating

Task 6: Using Claude for quality review

First let’s get used to Claude's interface by signing up here and creating a free personal account. Most editors find the free version is all they need for content review, though, a paid upgrade is available if you want additional features.

Once you have a Claude account set up:

  • Using the same page you have now manually completed a quality check and rating for, copy and paste the full page, along with the AI prompt above into Claude, to see what suggestions Claude offers in comparison to yours to improve quality. NOTE: do not copy the page URL and instead highlight the whole page from title to the final reference and then copy and paste.
  • Save/ store or make notes on these suggestions for later use, when we move on to editing the page.
  • Post in Slack your key Claude findings to the original quality review post. Also, let us know your thoughts on using Claude.

Keep in mind that AI suggestions are not always accurate and can make mistakes, so it is up to you to use your judgment before acting on any recommendations.

Share your Claude review

Task 7: Request a Physiopedia editing account

To be able to make edits at Physiopedia, you will need to request an account. You can set up your editing account by clicking here.

When requesting the account it will ask you to write a biogrpahy. You do not need to add all your details at this point as you will be prompted to to do this at a later point in te training. You can either add a 1-2 line summary about yourself, or simply write "This account request is related to the Physiopedia editor training programme, details to be added later".

Once you have requested your account you will receive an email that will contain a link to confirm your email address. Please click on this link. We will then be alerted to activate your account which is a manual process so it may take a couple of days. Once your account is activated you will be sent your login details and a link to your user profile by email.

Like anything new, it can take some time to get used to a system, its features and what it can do. We have many resources that help you along the way, to get you properly set up and raring to go with editing! During section 6, we are going to take you through a few key editing features to begin with.

Let us know in slack when you have requested your Physiopedia account. You can also let us know when you are all set up or if you are having problems getting set up.

Task 8: Edit your Physiopedia Profile

Your next task is to familiarise yourself with editing Physiopedia by editing your own profile page. When you set up your Physiopedia account, a profile page was automatically created for you but you need to personalise the information on the page yourself. Remember, your Physiopedia profile is a great place to promote yourself and is linked to from any edit you make in Physiopedia. Please make sure you use our profile template, to ensure consistency between our editor pages.

When creating your profile we would like you to:

  • Add text under each of the subheadings from the template where appropriate (you can remove headings that you don’t want to use)
  • Add at least one link (perhaps to your LinkedIn, workplace or some published work)
  • Play around on your profile page to see if you can make text bold or italic

Once complete, share the page link to your new Physiopedia Profile in the Slack channel. Also, share on Slack some reflections on what you have learned from editing your profile.

Share your profile page

Task 9: Perform a page edit

You are now going to use your new editing skills and knowledge, by reviewing and updating an existing Physiopedia page to meet our quality standards.

  1. If your previously chosen Physiopedia page, which you have quality reviewed and provided a quality rating for, has a rating of ‘red’ or ‘orange’, please use this page and edit it based on Claude’s and your own suggested improvements, using editing the tips in sections 6 and 7. If your selected page was rated ‘green’, let us know in Slack and we can provide you a suitable page to edit.
  2. Add the ‘under review’ banner to the page, by adding the code in ‘edit source’.
  3. Begin editing the page, utilising your checklist and suggested improvements, to complete a full page edit.
  4. Once you are happy with your edits, review the quality checklist to ensure you meet all quality requirements. You can also copy and paste the page back onto Claude using the same prompt to make a final check.
  5. Share the page link that you reviewed in the Slack channel as a new Slack message, along with your main focus with editing the page e.g. evidence quality, structure, etc.
  6. Once you have actioned any feedback and are happy with the page, please remove the ‘under review’ banner and you have now completed your first page edit!

Share your page editand comments

Task 10: Create a new page

It is time to create a new Physiopedia page. The page that you create can be on any topic that does not already exist in Physiopedia. We recommend you use the following steps for this task:

  • Select a category of interest and take a look at what pages there are within this category and consider what is missing.
  • Once you have an idea, search all of Physiopedia to make sure there is not another page on this topic. Make sure that you search using all the terms that might refer to the topic that you have chosen, for example for tendinopathy you should search for: tendinopathy, tendinosis, tendinitis, etc.
  • If the topic that you have chosen already exists, please choose another topic! It can be in any clinical area (there is a lot of space for contributions outside the musculoskeletal/orthopaedics area i.e. respiratory, neurology, paediatrics, etc) or even add to our resources (e.g. an outcome measure or clinical guideline).
  • When you are happy with your idea, post it in the Slack channel for approval by the management team
  • Once approved it is time to create the page, using the guidance above. Please make sure you have read how to create a page on Physiopedia.

Remember, your page should have clearly written, evidence-based content that is relevant to our clinical practice. Links, images, videos (where relevant) should all be added to the page. One thing that makes our Physiopedia pages stand out from other websites (like Wikipedia) is that they are clinically relevant. Be sure to highlight the importance of physiotherapy techniques and methods, with videos where possible. Go back to the tutorial links above as needed.

To recap:

  1. Search our categories for ideas on a page.
  2. Search our system to check there are no other similar pages.
  3. Post on Slack to gain approval for the new page.
  4. Once approved, head to ‘create new page’, to begin the page creation process
  5. Add a template to help you structure your page and follow the adding templates instructions.
  6. Add the under construction banner.
  7. Add content, ensure it meets quality standards and is evidenced based. Your page doesn’t have to be long, as long as the content on the page gives enough appropriate information on the topic, it’ll be good!
  8. Check references – your references should follow Vancouver style and the name of the research paper should be linked. See the Adding References tutorial for help.
  9. Add Media – all pages are enhanced by the addition of images and/or video. You should add a video and an image to your page. See the Adding Images and the Adding Videos Tutorial.
  10. Assign a category – make sure that you categorise the page with the most relevant category. Remember to keep this to one or to a minimum. You can see a list of categories here.
  11. Add your name as the original editor – it is important to credit the people that contributed to the Physiopedia content. See Adding Editors tutorial.
  12. Use Claude to check your work using the suggested AI prompt.
  13. Once you are happy with your work post a link to the page in Slack for review and feedback. Also, feel free to share your thoughts on the page creation process – how did you find this process? Was anything difficult to do or find?
  14. Once you have received and actioned any feedback, remove the under construction banner and you have completed your first page!

We understand that this task may take some time as you will need to get to grips with all the editing tasks involved in creating a new page. By completing this task, it will start you on the road to becoming a skilled and confident editor of Physiopedia and give you a great set of skills for your future volunteer roles.
