The Physiotherapy Management of Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia

Thalassaemia[edit | edit source]

Thalassaemia is an autosomal recessive blood disorder that results from a deficient production of haemoglobin leading to abnormal destruction of erythrocytes and consequently decreased oxygen delivery.

Thalassemia is derived from the Greek word "Thalassa" which means ''sea''. It's also referred to as ''Mediterranean Anaemia'' as it is found in children with Meditrranean origins.
