Introduction

This week you are going to create a new page in Physiopedia and reflect upon this experience.  

Task 1: Read about what makes a good page in Physiopedia

We try to follow certain standards for a Physiopedia page and we expect you, as a volunteer, to know what they are and edit pages to comply with these standards. Please read the following to understand what we are looking for in a Physiopedia page:

Task 2: Creating a new page in Physiopedia

Creating new pages in Physiopedia is a daunting but (once you have done it once) a very simple task! 

The page that you create can be on any topic that doesn’t already exist in Physiopedia. It can be in any clinical area (there is a lot of space for contributions outside the musculoskeletal/orthopaedics area i.e. respiratory, neurology, paediatrics etc) or even add to our Resources (e.g. an outcome measure or clinical guideline) or if you want to keep it simple just choose an anatomy page such as a joint, muscle, ligament or nerve!

Think about what makes a good Physiopedia page.  It should have clearly written evidence based (i.e. referenced) content that is relevant to our clinical practice. Links, images, videos (where relevant) all add to the page.

One thing that makes our Physiopedia pages stand out from other websites (like Wikipedia) is that they are clinically relevant.  Be sure to highlight the importance of physiotherapy techniques and methods, with video where possible.

1. Choose a topic - first you must choose a page to create.  Choose a topic that interests you and/or is relevant to your current practice. If you are struggling to come up with a topic choose an anatomy page to add to the anatomy content development project.
2. Search -  now you should check that this page doesn’t already exist within Physiopedia. Use the ‘search’ box to check what is already available. Make sure that you search using all the terms that might refer to the topic that you have chosen, for example for tendinopathy you should search for:  tendinopathy, tendinosis, tendinitis etc.  If the topic that you have chosen already exists, please choose another topic!
3. Create Page - go to this page - Creating New Page - to create a new page.
4. Add a Template - once you have created your new page you should add a Template to your page. You can see a list of Templates here, at least, you should add the New Page template. When you have chosen the template you wish to use follow these Adding Templates instructions.
5. Edit the Page - once your template has been added you can make edits to the page to add content. You are welcome to change any sub-headings or create new ones as you feel is appropriate.  Your page doesn't have to be long, as long as the content on the page gives enough appropriate information on the topic it'll be good!  Please refer to the Quality Standards page to ensure you have all the correct elements on your page and it is up to our Physiopedia standard. 
6. References - the content that you add to the page should be supported by evidence where appropriate. Please make sure that you use the referencing functionality correctly. See the Adding References tutorial for help.  You don't need to add lots of references, just a few to demonstrate that you know how to do it!
7. Add Media - all pages are enhanced by the addition of images and/or video. You should add a video and an image to your page. See the Adding Images Tutorial and the Adding Videos Tutorial.
8. Finally add your name as the original editor - to do this it is necessary to edit the wikitext.  When you are looking at the wikitext, look for this bit of code (below) and add your name in place of Rachael's!

We understand that this task may take some time as you will need to get to grips with all the editing tasks involved in creating a new page. However, completing this task will start you on the road to becoming a skilled and confident editor of Physiopedia and give you a great set of skills for your future volunteer roles.

Task 2: Discussion 

Go to Slack for all online discussions. Please post your discussions in the relevant discussion channel that will be set up for you. Look under the channels for each specific discussion:

1. In the #general channel - use this channel to help each other out, it's all about team work!  Getting used to editing pages and creating content in Physiopedia is tricky; we have all been through the process and will be able to answer your questions however big or small. Don't be afraid to ask!
2. Share a link to your new page in Slack in the #w2d1 channel
3. Share your thoughts on the page creation process process - how did you find this process, what could we do to improve it, are you becoming more confident to edit Physiopedia? Do this in the #w2d2 channel in Slack
4. Don't forget to share what you've been up to on social media #TeamPP!
