Origin[edit | edit source]

Ischial tuberosity and lower part of lesser sciatic notch

Insertion[edit | edit source]

Blends with tendon of obturator internus, and gets inserted into medial surface of greater trochanter of femur

Nerve Supply[edit | edit source]

Nerve to Quadratus Femoris (L4, L5, S1)[3]

Artery[edit | edit source]

Supplied by medial circumflex femoral artery.

Function[edit | edit source]

It works with gemellus superior to externally (laterally) rotate the hip and provide dynamic stability to the hip joint.
