After graduating I decided to travel and explore different cultures. Shortly after I relocated to the Kingdom of Bahrain as Massage and Exercise Therapist. During my time there I have gained a deeper understanding of working with people from many different backgrounds and cultures. After two years I returned to Bulgaria where I worked in a private practice, mainly clients with neuro-and musculoskeletal problems.
As I wanted to improve my English I moved to England in 2002. Due to some restrictions, I was only able to work as Senior Healthcare Assistant at the time. Invaluable experience as working with elderly residents with Alzheimer's and Dementia has thought me the importance of person-centered care and encouraging independence where possible as well as being able to assess cognitively the needs and abilities of our service users. Witnessing first hand the challenges our service users had to deal with every day: impaired mobility, behavioural changes, loss of communication and social circle have had great impact on my determination to continue on my path towards registering as a professional.
In 2010 I joined the physiotherapy team in private hospital in London as a physiotherapy assistant. I'm currently Lead Physiotherapy Assistant and Manual Handling Co-ordinator as well as the Physio Team Lead for Orthopaedic Pre-operative Assessment Clinic. Working mostly with Orthopaedic patients providing pre-operative assessment, inpatient care and post-operative treatment. As Manual Handling Coordinator I provide Moving and Handling training to our hospital staff as well as guidance and advice with regards to moving and handling practice.
My ultimate goal is to become full time Physiotherapist. Physiopedia and Physiopedia Plus provide excellent resources to keep me up to date.
