Introduction[edit | edit source]
Mental health can be defined whether as the state of the absence of mental disease or the existence of it. and it includes the psychological, biological or social factors as well that contribute to an individual’s mental state and ability to function within the environment[1]. WHO included the ability of an individual to realize the expected potentials, ability to cope with the daily stresses and the community contribution as core components of mental health[2] .
. Other definitions extend beyond this to also include intellectual, emotional and spiritual development,13 positive self-perception, feelings of self-worth and physical health,11 ,14 and intrapersonal harmony.8 Prevention strategies may aim to decrease the rates of mental illness but promotion strategies aim at improving mental health. The possible scope of promotion initiatives depends on the definition of mental health.
