Revision as of 10:33, 10 April 2013

I have always been fascinated by the beauty of human body and intrigued by its functioning. I decided on Physical Therapy as my career because it captivated me in the way it helps to improve physical health without the sole dependency on medication. It is the field of the future, and I am thrilled to be part of it. I believe that, despite increasing health awareness, exercise is still underestimated although it is a safer and more fulfilling way to handle body dysfunctions.

About Me
[edit | edit source]

My experience includes being a physical therapist (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) treating patients in the inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care facilities for 3 years. I then taught in PT education for approximately a year before moving to United States from India. I was also involved in management/ leadership positions for two of those three years that gives me a strong base to promote the education and clinical leadership among students. Currently, I am a doctoral student in the Rehabilitation Science Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and expect to complete my Ph.D. degree dissertation defense in 2013. Alongside my PhD degree, I pursued a post-professional Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) degree and completed the DPT program in 2011. I am also enrolled in the Health Professions Educator Certificate program to further my ability to mentor future students.

I have served as teaching assistant for a wide range of courses, such as Kinesiology, Musculoskeletal physical therapy courses and others in the DPT curriculum at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Additionally, as my schedule has permitted, I have acted as a clinical instructor for the DPT students at the University run pro-bono clinic (JAYDOC) since 2009. Both in India and at KUMC, I have been requested to give guest lectures on a variety of musculoskeletal topics including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ankle joint, shoulder dislocations, and computer professionals and health to name a few. These experiences along with my attendance at various international and national conferences have allowed me insight into the strengths and opportunities for growth in the physical therapy. I would like to take an active role in shaping the brand of physical therapy by meeting the changing health care needs through research, instruction and mentoring.
