Purpose

This test is used to detect ligamentous instability of the second and third carpometacarpal joints. [1]This test is used also in examination of the Wrist: Ulnar-Sided Wrist Pain Due to Ligamentous Injury[2]
Technique

The examiner supports the metacarpal shafts with one hand. With the other hand, the examiner pushes the metacarpal heads dorsally, then palmarly. Pain localized to the second or third carpometacarpal joints makes this maneuver result considered positive.
