Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. [1]It could be performed through the abdominal route, vaginal route, laparoscopically or combined method.[2]

Types of Hysterectomies[edit | edit source]
- Total Abdominal Hysterectomy - Removal of the uterine body and the cervix[4]
- Supracervical Hysterectomy - Removal of only the uterine body at or below the level of the Fundus[4]
- Hysterectomies associated with removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes ( Bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy)[4]
