Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. [1]It could be performed through the abdominal route, vaginal route, laparoscopically or combined method.[2]

Types of Hysterectomies[edit | edit source]

  1. Total Abdominal Hysterectomy - Removal of the uterine body and the cervix[4]
  2. Supracervical Hysterectomy - Removal of only the uterine body at or below the level of the Fundus[4]
  3. Hysterectomies associated with removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes ( Bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy)[4]
