The cremasteric reflex is a superficial reflex present in males. The female equivalent of this test is called the Geigel reflex. It evaluates the function of the cremasteric muscle which is supplied by the genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve (L1, L2).
Technique[edit | edit source]
This reflex is elicited by stroking the medial part of the thigh in a downward direction.
Interpretation[edit | edit source]
In a normal response, the cremasteric muscle contracts, thereby pulling the scrotum and testis superiorly on the side that is assessed.
As is the case for other superficial reflexes, it is graded as being present or absent.
