IASP Definition[edit | edit source]

Nociplastic pain can be defined as pain that isn't nociceptive or neuropathic, but has other qualities that can relate to both nociceptive and neuropathic pain.

Recommended by the IASP, "Nociplastic Pain is a term used to describe describe persistent pain that arises from altered nociception, despite no clear evidence of actual or threatened tissue damage causing the activation of peripheral nociceptors, or evidence for disease or lesion of the somatosensory system causing the pain."
