Registration Process:
[edit | edit source]

To gain registration, there are two possible options:

  • Option one: assessment of physiotherapists who intend to apply to the physiotherapy board of Australia for general registration

1. Initial Assessment:  The Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC) determine if an applicant holds a physiotherapy qualification, and is legally able to fully practice physiotherapy, and meets the English language requirement. http://www.physiocouncil.com.au/forms/Initial%20Assessment%20Application%201211.pdf
2. Written Assessment: MCQ, testing ability to apply knowledge of physiotherapy in the context and scope of physiotherapy practice in Australia at the level of the novice practitioner. Held worldwide in March and Sept annually. Guidelines for exams:  http://www.physiocouncil.com.au/forms/guidelines-to-content-of-the-australian-physiotherapy-council-march-2011-written-examination

3. Clinical Assessment: Treat a patient from the area of Cardio-respiratory, Neurology, and Musculoskeletal. Can only be taken in Australia. Held in March and September annually.

4. APA Final Certificate is issued after satisfactory treatment of 3 clinical cases. This certificate is submitted to Physiotherapy Board of Australia as part of application for General Registration.

  • Option two: assessment of equivalence of qualification

1. Apply for assessment of equivalence (university submit documents in substantial detail regarding all aspects of the qualification and course structure) http://www.physiocouncil.com.au/forms/Application%20for%20Assessment%20of%20Equivalence%20of%20Qualification%20-February%202011.pdf
2. Qualification either meets or does not meet criteria. If it meets criteria, issued with APC certificate of Substantial Equivalence and apply for General Registration. If not, approved for written assessment (part 2 above).
