I am a physical therapist in an outpatient orthopedic setting in the United States. I work for the Jackson Clinics, llc and I am proud to say that we have been awarded the "2010 Practice Award" by the Private Practice Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
I serve as the Director of Clinical Development at the Jackson Clinics (TJC) which involves me heavily in professional development for physical therapists and physical therapy assistants. Additionally I directed the Orthopedic Residency Program at TJC for 2 years and now closely consult on program development with the new Residency Director, Kris Porter, PT, DPT, OCS. I am also the Clinic Director at the Worldgate location of TJC and a full-time clinician at that site.
I became interested in physical therapy while completing my undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary. I was pre-med and planned to pursue orthopedic medicine, partially inspired by the multiple bouts of rehab I endured from baseball related injuries. In my preparation for a medical profession I found that physical therapy offered an amazing balance of science, patient investment, and potential to make profession-wide impact, so I focused my attention on a career in PT.
I pursued my DPT at the University of Delaware, where I worked as a Graduate Assistant in 2 research labs throughout my time there. My focus after graduating was on developing advanced clinical knowledge and skills in orthopedics, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to sit for and pass the Orthopedic Specialist exam in 2008.
As I learn more about this profession and understand the context of the regional, national and global health needs that exist, I look forward to opportunities to contribute in a significant way to positive change.
I am currently working very hard to grow and improve as a clinician. I am working to help the Jackson Clinics become a model practice in all respects -- through clinical care, research, education, and service. I am working to help my profession develop, both nationally and globally. I am blessed to be surrounded by people who share my passion and ambition, and I hope that we are able to live up to our goals; to BE the change we seek in the world.
