I graduated as a Physiotherapist from Guys Hospital (London) in 1989 and worked in a range of fields including musculoskeletal and sports rehabilitation and chronic pain management within the NHS. I traveled to New Zealand and undertook a graduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy in 1999 and a Masters in 2002 at the University of Otago in New Zealand. in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2002 looking at diagnostic issues in chronic low back pain. I taught on the undergraduate and postgraduate manual therapy courses at the University of Otago from 2003 and completed my PhD in 2011 which investigated the role of physical activity in recovery from low back pain. I am currently a Lecturer in the Division of Physiotherapy at the University of Nottingham in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, manual therapy, pain management and evidence based practice. My teaching and research interests includes the role of physical activity in chronic disease prevention and management, pain mechanisms in manual therapy and the links between health information and communication and clinical outcomes.
