Course Description[edit | edit source]

This project forms part of the Biomechanical Pathology and Injury Mechanisms course in the Kinesiology program at University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The Students will focus on the biomechanical mechanisms that contribute to musculoskeletal injury and pathology. Students will work towards the ultimate goal of creating an original knowledge translation Physiopedia page, about the clinical biomechanics involved in a musculoskeletal condition.

Course Instructors[edit | edit source]

Start and Finish Dates[edit | edit source]

Instructions to Students[edit | edit source]

This course will focus on critical appraisal of research evidence to gain and communicate a deeper understanding of the biomechanical pathology/injury mechanisms, and treatment of a clinical condition affecting muscle, joint and bone. This course will ask you to search the literature, identify good quality evidence, and interpret the research literature; and present your findings in oral and written formats; and participate in strategies to improve the quality and clarity of knowledge translation activities.

You will work towards creating an evidence-based summary of a topic in clinical biomechanics for consideration to be shared on a Physiopedia page:
(The following section is only relevant if students are reviewing current Physiopedia pages)

  • The page or subject area chosen
  • The relevance and importance of this topic to Physiotherapy clinical practice
  • What the content was on the page at the outset
  • What changes you made to the page
  • Why you made these changes
  • The literature you used to support the changes
  • Critical appraisal of this literature
  • What the page looks like now, highlighting the changes you have made or content added
  • Copyright of images and tables
