Catherine qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1996 from the University of Birmingham (UK) with a first class honours degree (BSc in Physiotherapy). Her initial working career was at Birmingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with a general rotational post and she completed her rotational grade post at Nottingham City Hospital. Following this she then specialised as a neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapist at the Ropewalk House (then part of Nottingham Community Health Care Trust). Her main roles in this post were the management of musculoskeltal conditions, development of staff and the development of the in-service training program. It was her great enjoyment of the education role, within the post, that lead to her applying for the post of lecturer.

Having been in a lecturing post for 8 years she currently convenes six undergraduate musculoskeletal modules at the University of Nottingham (UK). She teaches mainly on the neuromusculoskeletal, therapeutic studies and spinal rehabilitation modules, which consist of a mix of lead lectures and practical classes. She is in the process of becoming MACP accredited and will increase her input onto the Manual Therapy Masters modules as a result. Her research involves the investigation into the effects of the use of mirrors in rehabilitation and the long term effects of wrist fractures. She has developed a specialist interest in e-learning, having developed online re-usable learning objects (RLO) for student use and the use podcast for feedback following assessment. She has a Masters in Public Health and has a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.
