About Me
[edit | edit source]

Greetings! My name is Mary Wray, you probably already know this because you took the time to come find my profile...

Anyway, I was born and raised in a little town outside Pittsburgh called Finleyville, or as I call it "the middle of nowhere." I was forced to be outdoors as a child so that I didn't become a brain-dead minion of television and its electronic media companions. To this day I still enjoy hiking, running, canoeing, climbing trees and riding my horse "Yield to Habit", or affectionately known as Woody. I also am very fond of useless trivia and memorizing entire movie scripts. So if you need to know how the Beatles managed to convince that world that Paul McCartney was indeed killed in a nasty car crash by integrating ironic symbols and imagery into many of their albums...just take me to dinner and I'll talk your ear off.

During college, I worked as a Physical Therapy Aide at Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy Associates in Pittsburgh. OSPTA has over 25 offices and each office specialized in some form of therapy. My personal favorites included Pilates based therapy and pediatric gross and fine motor therapy. In addition to this job, I held many teaching assistant jobs at UD. My absolute favorite position was as a Student Associate for Adapted Physical Education, where we worked with children with a wide variety of exceptionalities and acted as a mentor and physical education coach. This class inspired me to pursue my passions in life: horses, healing, and individuals with exceptionalities. It was then that I decided I wanted to pursue a career in Hippotherapy after Physical Therapy School.

In May I graduated from the University of Dayton with my Pre-physical Therapy degree. For those poor souls who have never experienced Dayton, I deeply, deeply feel you have missed out. My experience there has prepared me for the academic and social challenges that many individuals tend to avoid. Dayton Flyers have this nasty habit of being too dedicated to helping others. Whenever I see an alumni I never hesitate to start chanting one of our many fight songs that have been imbedded into my cranial compartment. You will find that the Marianist spirit and teachings of community resonate in all aspects of my social and academic life. So in other words, if you want to get on my good side, don't go to Xavier...

The next phase of my life brings me to Louisville, KY where I am currently attending Bellarmine University's Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program. While I am not accustomed to the southern twang and copious amounts of Bourbon, I am falling in love with this school and all the people here trying to help us survive the challenges ahead.
