About me[edit | edit source]

I obtained my Physiotherapy degree at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa in 2009, and spent the year of 2010 doing a compulsory Community service year working in a small rural hospital. This involved working in various in-patient settings, seeing out-patients and visiting local community clinics. A lot of valuable life and clinical lessons were learnt whilst trying to help patients with very limited resources. I then moved into private practise where I treated patients both in an in-patient and an out-patient setting. This work involved Orthopaedics, various MSK conditions, respiratory care and management and prevention of Lymphoedema. During this time I also completed my Post-Graduate diploma in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy.

In search of a new challenge and adventure I emigrated to the United Kingdom in 2013 and started doing various locum jobs at MSK clinics. I then started to work long term in a busy NHS hospital in the Orthopaedic ward, mainly looking after hip fractures in the elderly. I progressed to being a Band 7 Physiotherapist and enjoyed the added challenges and responsibilities that this brought. Staff shortages and high case loads were particularly difficult. My role involved supervision of other Physiotherapists as well as mentoring Physiotherapy students.

In the beginning of 2018 I started working in my local area, at the South West London Orthopaedic Elective Centre. This centre is the largest hip and knee replacement centre in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. I thoroughly enjoyed the clinical work here, as well as managing the day to day runnings of the rehabilitation team and getting involved in various Hospital projects. The work here was very stimulating and exciting, especially being involved and able to rehabilitate innovate Orthopaedic interventions, such as robotic surgery.

I stopped clinical work in September 2019 to go on Maternity leave. In October 2020 I returned home to beautiful South Africa.
