Prevention of Disabilities Coordinator August 2003 – to date Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Program Dar es Salaam MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES  To supervise and support health workers in the regions in activities related to prevention of disabilities and physiotherapy services among leprosy patients with disabilities.  To train regional/ district TB leprosy coordinators and other general health workers involved in leprosy control in prevention of disabilities among leprosy patients.  To supervise and coordinate the quality of physiotherapy services provided to leprosy patients in collaboration with regional /district TB/leprosy coordinators.  To collaborate with existing institutions providing services for disabled leprosy patients like CCBRT Disability Hospital (Dar es Salaam), Regional Dermatology Training Centre (Moshi), and Social Welfare centres where relevant.  To prepare accurate records and reports on prevention of disabilities and physiotherapy among leprosy patients.  To study and report on POD needs in the country.

Achievements: -Improved services for people affected by leprosy in collaboration with other stakeholders -Production of special footwear from 150 in 2002 to more than 442 in 2007 -Provision of prosthesis from less than10 in 2002 to 64 in 2007 -Improved data submission of services rendered from regions less than 10 regions in 2003 to all regions in 2005 - Increased number of collaborating institutions to providing services for persons affected by leprosy
