About Me

My name is Chris Mulvaney and I am a chartered physiotherapist working in higher education. I am currently a lecturer at Liverpool Hope University, teaching on programmes within the School of Health and Sport Sciences. These include our apprentice degree and pre-registration MSc in Physiotherapy, along with our BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation, and MSc Advanced Musculoskeletal Practice programmes.
I attained my degree from University of Bradford before working within private practice and in rugby league. This has been a regular feature in my career, having worked for St Helens RLFC and Leigh Leopards (formerly Leigh Centurions) RLFC. In 2020 I started working at Spire Healthcare, at their Liverpool hospital. Within my practice, I focus on musculoskeltal and sports physiotherapy, with a particular interest in rehabilitation of chronic and acute injuries, including the post-surgical patient.
My entry into physiotherapy came after a seven-year stint in the British Army, and two decades in the health and fitness industry, Here I worked within health promotion and exercise referral, as well delivering exercise classes - spin, circuit training and personal training. I also have experience in sports, both as an athletics coach with Southport Waterloo AC where I coached middle and long distance athletes, and also in rugby league with the academy at Widnes Vikings RLFC and athletes from Manchester Thunder as part of the strength and conditioning teams.
Outside of work I have several interests. Being ex-military I love the great outdoors and will regularly go out into the hills and valleys of the UK, especially Wales and the Lake District. I also enjoy photography and fishing. I am currently learning German and I am currently at B1 level, although I look forward to changing this C1 when I pass the exam!
