Dr. Alexander Y. P. Chan is an Australian-trained physiotherapist based in Hong Kong. He holds dual titling from the Australian Physiotherapy Association as both a Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist and a Research Physiotherapist. His clinical and research interests centre on the management of complex and persistent low back pain, particularly discogenic pain, alongside extensive experience in elite and professional sport. As a member of the La Trobe University Low Back Research Team, he contributed to the Specific Treatment of Problems of the Spine (STOPS) research programme, and his PhD examined the conservative management of non-reducible discogenic low back pain.

About Me

Alexander has practised physiotherapy in Australia and Hong Kong across complex musculoskeletal rehabilitation and elite sport. His clinical practice focuses on the rehabilitation of complex and persistent low back pain and sports-related spinal injuries, alongside experience managing multidisciplinary pain management programmes. He has also worked extensively in elite and professional sport, holding head physiotherapist roles in rugby union and cricket, coordinating medical services in rugby sevens at the Hong Kong Sports Institute, and providing physiotherapy to professional and national-level athletes across rugby, tennis, cricket, badminton, and triathlon, as well as to the Hong Kong Ballet. He combines this clinical work with qualifications in sports physiotherapy and strength and conditioning, and contributes to the profession through mentoring, clinical placement supervision, and journal peer review.
