I qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2003. Initially I followed a traditional career pathway, completing junior rotations in a large district hospital, followed by a senior II static outpatient post in musculoskeletal outpatients. While there I was fortunate to secure some experience working in a government initiative supporting people with long term health conditions re-engage in a vocation. This gave me a taste for occupational health (OH) and sent me down the road seeking OH experience. Throughout my motivation for learning and evidence based practice has persisted and I have continued to undertake formal and informal study and tackling any learning and development roles/responsibilities both in and outside of employment that crossed my path.

I have worked in OH in various contexts holding clinical, delivery and personnel responsibilities for a range of services including manual handling training, health and well being education for staff, telephone advice lines, complex and functional rehabilitation programs and direct access onsite services.

To further my skills and knowledge in learning and research I moved out of clinical practice into a role at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) supporting members undertake CPD , and on again to my current post as a Physiotherapy lecturer.

About Me

During this time I also accrued experience in service design, evaluation and delivery.

Throughout my career motivation for learning and evidence based practice has persisted and I have continued to undertake formal and informal study, tackling any learning and development roles/responsibilities that crossed my path. So, to further my skills and knowledge in learning and research I moved out of clinical practice into a role at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) supporting members undertake CPD , and on again to my current post as a Physiotherapy lecturer.

In my current role I am passionate about promoting the value Physiotherapy can add to patient pathways in all areas of health and social care, and instilling evidence-based biophsycolsocial values, beliefs and behaviours in all the health professional learners I meet. I endeavour to celebrate and undertake collaborative learning whenever possible, hence my presence in Physiopedia, and my developing interest in the use of social media in higher education and patent education (especially in the field of long term conditions and pain management).
