I qualified as a physiotherapist after attending the University of the West of England in Bristol. Post qualifying I worked in a variety of settings in the NHS including paediatric neurology, pulmonary rehabilitation and musculoskeletal outpatients as well a in palliative care at Weldmar Hospice Care Trust. I am a keen sailor and have competed successfully at international level whist building my physiotherapy experience. In 2009 I was able to bring together my love of sailing and physiotherapy by opening the private practice, Ocean Motion Physiotherapy and the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, the venue for the sailing and windsurfing events for the 2012 Olympics. Through Ocean Motion Physiotherapy I have enjoyed helping many elite athletes in the disciplines of sailing and windsurfing as well as many of those looking to boost their own recreational sporting and functional performance. Working with the Swedish Olympic Sailing Team, I was delighted to help them achieve gold and bronze medals on the water at London 2012. Following this I founded the website, Performance Penguin, which brings what I have learnt about physiotherapy in sailing and presents it in a way to benefit sailors of all levels. I have just published my first book on the same subject, entitled Sailing Fitness Toolbox, which is available through my website www.performancepenguin.com.
