Emiliana Blagoeva is a member of two Health Regulatory Colleges in Ontario. She is a Registered Physiotherapist and a Registered Acupuncturist with over 20 years of clinical experience. During her carrier she has worked in both private and public sectors including South Lake Regional Health Centre, Home Care, Canadian Armed Forces and several private clinics. Having taught yoga since age 20 on 3 different continents: Europe, Asia and North America; Emiliana is also a certified yoga teacher. Her multidisciplinary training and perspective gives her a holistic treatment approach for her patients. Her practice focuses on an integrated treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions and infertility through a pelvic health physiotherapy, acupuncture, and yoga to name a few treatment methods she uses.

“Looking back it is fascinating to see how the different events and paths of my life fit together into an integrated larger pattern” says Emiliana.

Emiliana graduated with a Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy in 1993. The following year she was introduced to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture while seeking help for her severe low back pain. “I was young and fit when suddenly one morning I woke up in excruciating pain such that I could not get out of bed. I was seen by my family doctor, a sports medicine doctor, a neurologist and several colleague physiotherapists. The pain medication, the anti-inflammatory drugs and the physiotherapy could not resolve my pain. It seemed that no one was able to help me. Finally I was introduced to a TCM practitioner. I was amazed that after only one acupuncture treatment my pain improved by 70% and after the third treatment, I was practically pain free” - shares Emiliana.

This incident made her realize the limitations of western treatment methods and motivated her to pursue post-graduate studies in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1994 Emiliana completed her first certification in Classical Acupuncture and Moxibution. Since then she has continuously upgrading her knowledge and skills through numerous courses, workshops, seminars, and symposiums. She is a member of Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and the Bulgarian Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is a member of the organizing committee of the ICMART congress that will take place in 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Emiliana has been practicing yoga since age of 14. She starts her day at 4:00 A.M. with yoga and meditation. This practice helps to balance her own energy (subtle body) thus enabling her to give an optimal holistic treatment to each of her patients. In 1998 and 2000 she worked as a researcher at the International Sahaja Yoga Research and Health Centre in CBD, Belarpur, India. The topic of her research was “The Holistic Approach in Physiotherapy through Yoga and Meditation”.

In Canada she has been teaching yoga and meditation since 2002 this included teaching yoga classes to hospital employees at the Southlake Regional Health Centre. At present she teaches a community based yoga group in Toronto.

Emiliana was introduced by a urologist to a patient population suffering from pelvic floor dysfunctions. Statistically 1 in 4 North American women suffer from incontinence and 1 in 9 men or women suffer from pelvic pain. Surprised by the number of patients suffering from such dysfunctions and feeling that she could bring a unique approach to this area, Emiliana took up the study of Pelvic Health Physiotherapy and in 2009 she received her certification in this area. Among a handful of Ontario therapists currently working in this area, Emiliana’s unique approach using evidence based pelvic health physiotherapy combined with Traditional Chinese Medical knowledge produces progress and treatment success for each of her patients they have not found before. She is in the roster of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario which allows her to perform internal exams. Emiliana is also trained in Chinese Scalp Acupuncture, Gua Sha and Auriculotherapy.

Emiliana is happily married and a mother of 3 wonderful boys ages 26, 6 and 2. Her personal belief is that “There is no greater joy in this world than the joy of being a mother”. This belief motivates her to constantly upgrade her knowledge related to the treatment of infertility. She consults and treats many women suffering from pelvic floor dysfunctions such as endometriosis, vaginismus/vulvodynia, vestibulodynia, dyspareunia, etc. that prevents them from conceiving. The primary objective of her practice is to provide one on one holistic pelvic health physiotherapy through a unique combination of therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, acupuncture and yoga.
