Evaluation of Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life
Objective[edit | edit source]
The Evaluation of Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life (EASi-QoL) is a patient reported outcome measure developed by Haywood et al. [1]It consists of 20-item questionnaire assessing four domains of physical function, disease activity, emotional well-being and social participation.
Intended Population[edit | edit source]
The EASi-AOL was designed to use in people with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).
Method of Use[edit | edit source]
The EASi-QOL is a self-reported questionnaire. Patients select an answer from the option that best described their physical function on the day of questionnaire administration. For the domains of disease activity, emotional well-being and social participation, patient give their response based on their average over the past week. Each question scores from 0-4, and a lower score indicates better quality of life.
Single missing answer in a domain will be scored as the mean of the questions answered in that particular domain. The domain cannot be scored if more than one question is missing in a domain.
Evidence[edit | edit source]
Reliability[edit | edit source]
High test-retest reliability were reported with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) at 0.93 for the physical function domain, 0.88 for the disease activity domain, 0.90 for the emotional well-being domain and 0.90 social participation domain. [1]
Validity[edit | edit source]
High correlations between EASi-QOL domains and the 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36), EuroQol- 5 Dimension (EQ-5D) and other AS-specific questionnaire of related constructs including the Bath AS Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and the Bath AS Functional Index (BASFI)[1].
Responsiveness[edit | edit source]
Based on observational and intervention studies, evidence of responsiveness was reported to be similar to comparative AS-specific and generic measures [2].
