Description[edit | edit source]

Spondyloarthrosis is a degenerative condition that affects the facet joints of the spine. When degenerative changes occur specifically in the vertebrae and discs of the spine, the condition is known as spondylosis[1]. Spondyloarthrosis is a type of axial spondyloarthritis, which is a chronic, autoinflammatory disease predominantly affecting the axial skeleton (sacroiliac joints and spine).

The condition can be diagnosed through radiological changes in the facet joints of the spine. Symptoms of spondyloarthrosis include stiffness, pain, and limited mobility in the affected joints. Treatment for spondyloarthrosis includes anti-inflammatory drugs, such as NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors, which reduce inflammation and pain. In addition, there are other medications that can be used to treat the progression of the disease.

Spondyloarthrosis is a less severe form of spondylitis, which is a type of arthritis characterized by long-term inflammation of the joints of the spine typically where the spine joins the pelvis.
