Northumbria University Innovation and Contemporary Physiotherapy Project

This project forms part of the MSc is a two-year accelerated programme at Northumbria University in the UK. Students will investigate a contemporary area of physiotherapy practice (of their own choosing) within a general theme of innovation, service development, and so forth, and to develop a Physiopedia resource to support this.

Instructions to Students[edit | edit source]
Full instructions are provided to students in class. Projects are developed to meet co-produced learning outcomes developed by the full student group and University staff. Agreed learning outcomes resulting from open dialogue in relation to Level 7 / M-Level marking criteria are stated below:
On completion of the module students will be able to
- Evidence a critical and innovative understanding of continuing professional development, service delivery and development, and leadership.
- Critically explore the application of person-centred care in physiotherapy practice.
- Evidence the ability to identify, negotiate, record and achieve learning outcomes in the evidencing of autonomous learning.
- Provide a critical commentary in ongoing development as a reflective practitioner.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the need for change / change management
In fulfilment of the learning outcomes the module assessment will comprise a 30minute individual presentation supported by visual aids followed by a 10 minute discussion in relation to the 'product' (the project) and also the 'process' of its development.
Projects are agreed and developed following a series of facilitated workshops linked to a range of physiotherapy service areas (e.g. NHS, Charities, Private Practice) and open discussions with individual physiotherapists exploring their current role, career path to date, and future aspirations in relation to the continuing development of the physiotherapy profession within contemporary healthcare.

Choose a contemporary area of practice within a general theme of innovation, service development and create a Physiopedia resource to support this. You will need to set up a physiopedia account so that you can directly add your work to Physiopedia.

Expectations – Content[edit | edit source]
In keeping with the course objectives, the creation of a page must be related to a general theme of innovation, service development, contemporary issues for physiotherapy. Within the page, you will develop content in collaboration with all members of your group with due attention to your intended 'audience', context of practice, and perspective.
Expectations – Overall quality[edit | edit source]
Your content should be accurate, evidence-based, and have appropriate and accurate inclusion of hyperlinks and citations. The hyperlinks and citations should add knowledge value to your contributions. Your content should have absolutely zero spelling errors, zero grammar errors, zero breaches of academic integrity, and zero copyright violations.
Expectations – Citing of sources[edit | edit source]
Incorporate and include links to references and resources to support the information you are including in your case. This should include original research (including systematic reviews), as well as other online resources that you may find. You are NOT permitted to cite the course textbook or any other textbook that is not freely accessible online to the world. If you take your inspiration for this assignment from the textbook chapters, you should take a look at what references they cite (at the back of each chapter) and look them up online. If relevant, see if you can find anything more current.
