Welcome to PPA Pain Project. This page is being developed by participants of a project to populate the Pain section of Physiopedia.  The project is supervised and co-ordinated by the The Physiotherapy Pain Association.
  • Please do not edit unless you are involved in this project, but please come back in the near future to check out new information!!
  • If you would like to get involved in this project and earn accreditation for your contributions, please get in touch!

Tips for writing this page:

  • Describe and explain the afferent innervations of the spinal cord from different tissue types, and how pain from different tissues is processed centrally.
  • Describe the changes and role of ion channels, excitatory neurotransmitters, and inhibitory neurotransmitters in the peripheral nervous system and in non-neuronal cells, and how these changes influence the processing of noceception.
